First Aid When a Child Suffers

It can happen that a baby or child chokes with food. This is a horrible situation that nobody wants, but knowing the right first aid techniques will increase the chances of saving their lives. That is why we will be discussing it today.

Signs that the child is choking

Here are some of the symptoms that show that the child is choking:

He coughs and is unable to breathe;
His mouth is open;
He has an expression of distress, cries with his eyes;
He holds his throat and emits high-pitched sounds.
If the child is able to cough, encourage him or her to continue. However, if it stops completely, you will have to intervene.

What to do if the child is less than 1 year old



Press your forearm on your thigh and then put the baby on your stomach with your head down;
Give 5 tapes with your palm on the shoulder blades. The tapes must have an angle that descends downwards;
If the object is not dislodged, turn the baby on the back and perform 5 chest compressions with your index finger and middle finger;
If the object is not dislodged, return the baby and repeat step 2;
Alternate until the object dislodges or loses consciousness;
If the baby loses consciousness, ask to call an ambulance and perform CPR.
What to do if the child is more than 1 year old

Kneel behind the child;

Press your right fist over the child's navel;
Apply your left hand over your fist;
With your fist, apply abdominal pressures upwards to push the object out of the child;
If the child loses consciousness, ask to call an ambulance and perform CPR.
